He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
This verse comes from the passage of Peter’s confession that Jesus is Christ. Jesus was with his discoples questioning them about who the people thought He was. The disciples shared what the people had said. But then Jesus turned to His disciples and wanted to know who they thought He was. It’s a very direct question. It’s a question each of us must answer. It’s a question that determines our eternity. Is He a prophet? Is He a teacher? Is He simply a historical figure? Is He a myth? Peter boldly proclaimed, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus then told Peter God in heaven revealed this to him not man made of flesh or bone. It’s the same for our own revelation. God’s Holy Spirit will convict us of our sin and need for the Savior. It will be made known to us that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of the living God. His only Son who died for us that we might live. Praying this day we respond as Peter when we are asked, “But who do you say that Jesus is.”
